Choi Yun-Kyeung
Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine how cognitive flexibility and time perspective affect the post-traumatic growth among divorced individuals. The participants were 114 divorced individuals(38 men and 76 women), and each participant completed a measure of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory, the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory, and the Experience of Divorce Questionnaire. The data were analyzed by correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows: First, cognitive flexibility was positively associated with posttraumatic growth and ¡®alternative¡¯ subscale of the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory was strongly related to posttraumatic growth than ¡®control¡¯ subscale. Second, present-hedonistic and future time perspective were positively associated with posttraumatic growth, respectively. Third, present-hedonistic and future time perspective mediated the relationship between cognitive flexibility and posttraumatic growth. These results can provide useful data in both counseling and clinical practice to help divorced individuals overcome their life crisis and enhance adversarial growth.
